WOULDN'T
A PACKAGE BE CHEAPER?
If you've never travelled 'independently'
before and have always purchased a package holiday, the USA is the very
best place to start being independent and save yourself some money...
You can purchase total packages from major
tour operators which include flights, car rental and a villa all in one
You can also purchase 'fly/drive' packages
which include your flights and car rental only
You may get free child places with either
of the above too
They're all inclusive so these packages must
be less expensive than arranging them separately?
Perhaps not...
You will not get a discount price for your
flight
You will not get discount all-inclusive car
rental
You will almost certainly have to pay under
occupancy supplements (these are usually charged per person, per night)
unless you have the exact maximum occupancy number for your rental home
Remember...our homes have no under occupancy
supplements and include all taxes and utility bills, our flights are discount
ones and our car rental is fully inclusive with no suprise extra charges

So please...calculate those under
occupancy supplements carefully
Make sure that you work out the additional
insurance and tax costs of your 'free' rental car (usually to
be found in the small print) as these can add £100s to what
you thought was FREE...

UK
DISCOUNT FLIGHTS
If you're tied to a particular
departure or arrival date because of school or work schedules, you need
to start looking for your flights well in advance
If you're booking your flights
via the internet, most discount flights become available about ten months
in advance of departure dates
In general, the nearer the
date to the departure, the more expensive they become
If you want to book your flights
earlier than this (but remember they probably won't be discount ones),
you may need to do this either with the airline direct or with a travel
agent

Please be aware that
weekend (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) flights are generally more
expensive than those on weekdays
If you can arrange
your travel during the week, you should make even bigger savings

CHOOSE
YOUR AIRPORT
Most charter airlines fly
to Orlando Sanford Airport (code SFD) which is over an hour's drive away
from your vacation home
Are you travelling with children
or the elderly?
Is the driving distance after a long flight to a different time zone important
to you?
If the answer to these questions
is 'Yes' then make sure you fill in Orlando International Airport (code
MCO - for scheduled flights) on the enquiry screen, which is about 20
- 30 minutes drive from your rental home

for the dates you want?
Don't panic or despair...
Try another UK departure
airport or there may be flights available to alternative Florida
airports
Sanford (airport code
SFD - charter airlines only) is about 1.5 hours from our Kissimmee
vacation homes
Tampa (airport code
TPA) is about 1.5 - 2 hours from our Kissimmee vacation homes
& about 0.5 - 1 hour from
our Gulf Coast homes
Miami (airport code
MIA) is about 4 - 5 hours hours from our Kissimmee vacation homes
and more than this to our Gulf Coast homes
But, if you are arriving
at Miami Airport, we would recommend that you arrange an overnight
stop and start refreshed the next day

DIRECT
OR INDIRECT FLIGHT?
Currently only British Airways
(from Gatwick/Heathrow) and Virgin (from Gatwick, Heathrow or Manchester)
have direct scheduled flights from UK to Florida
|
OUR

Virgin do not offer
direct flights from Manchester between November & May
If you book one of
their flights during this period, you will need to make a plane
change at either Gatwick or Heathrow
Check carefully -
you may arrive at Gatwick and need to get your next plane from
Heathrow or vice versa
Gatwick & Heathrow
are approx 40 miles apart...
There is an airport
bus service between the two airports but this is via the busy
(and delay prone) M25
The choices are to
get a taxi (very expensive) or make a train trip into London and
return out to the other airport by train
The cost of transferring
between these airports will not be included in your flight costs

With all other scheduled airlines
you will need to change somewhere in your journey
Although changing planes will
make your total journey time longer, the stop(s) can be useful for breaking
up the flight and give you an opportunity to stretch your legs
If you are travelling with
kids, a plane change will also have the extra bonus of giving them an
opportunity to use up some energy at the airport!

ABOUT
YOUR FLIGHT & FLORIDA TIME
Your flying time from the UK will be about
9 - 10 hours
Your flight will probably
leave the UK in the morning and you will arrive in Florida in the afternoon/evening
of the same day
Florida time is Eastern Standard
Time = EST and is 5 hours behind UK time which is on Greenwich Mean Time
= GMT
So, when it is 2 pm in UK,
it will be 9 am in Florida
When it's 2 pm in Florida,
it will be 7 pm in UK
When you return home, your
flight will probably leave in the afternoon and you will arrive in the
UK the next day due to the time difference
